Record year for the region's gritters

Five county councils in the Anglia region say they've carried out record amounts of road gritting this winter.

Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Northamptonshire have spread more salt on the roads than ever before, going out nearly 600 times between them.

Essex County Council has covered more than 26,000 miles, and in Suffolk they've got through 30,000 tonnes of salt - that's twice the average usage.

In Cambridgeshire they've made 100 outings, each one costing £20,000 while Norfolk County Council says it may be gritting well past the normal stop date in early April.
