A couple from the Colchester area have been ordered to keep their Akita dog on a short lead and muzzled at all times in public after pleading guilty to encouraging her to kill a cat.
Andrew Johnson, 28, and Katy Johnson, 26, both pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a cat, inciting a dog to attack, and having a dangerous dog.
The attack took place in September 2012 in front of a group of children as the couple were collecting their own child from a school.
The cat, a 16-year-old tabby called Rambo, later died from his injuries.
Colchester magistrates ordered Mr Johnson to do 95 hours of unpaid work and Mrs Johnson to do 75 hours. They were also ordered to pay £1,613 in costs.
