Luton resident found guilty of fraud

A Luton resident who failed to report a change in her circumstances to the Council & the Department of Works & Pensions has been convicted of council tax benefit and income support fraud.

Gillian Hendrie, 63, of 188 Brompton Road, Luton, appeared at Luton Magistrates Court on Wednesday where she pleaded guilty to five fraud offences.

After investigation it was found that Hendrie had failed to report that she had purchased another property which she was renting out.

By failing to notify the Council and the DWP of these changes she fraudulently obtained benefits totalling £8,321.

Hendrie received a 12 month community order with 150 hours unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £220 towards the Council’s costs.
