Work is due to start today on a new footbridge at St Neots' station in Cambridgeshire. The footbridge will provide new access to every platform and a link between the new Loves Farm housing development and the town centre.
The £6 million bridge will shave as much as 15 minutes off the walk from Loves Farm to the station and town centre, which is expected to encourage many more people to walk instead of drive, reducing traffic congestion and pollution in the area.
– Phil Verster, Network Rail route managing director
"This year-long project will deliver improvements that will make a big difference to passengers, especially those with reduced mobility or small children. This investment is part of a wider effort to build a bigger, better railway."
– First Capital Connect Customer Service Director Keith Jipp
"This is very good news for our passengers. It means everyone can access our services - and provides an important link for the community."
