Warning to keep homes locked up

Police are reminding householders to secure their homes and be on the look-out for burglars following two daytime break-ins in south-east Essex just before the start of the bank holiday weekend. Thieves stole over £3,000 worth of items and money while the owners were out for the day.

The first offence happened when burglars broke into a property opposite Southend University Hospital on Prittlewell Chase through an open window. Thieves stole jewellery, a laptop and foreign currency.

The second burglary took place at a flat on Eastwood Road near to its junction with Websters Way in Rayleigh. The thieves stole jewellery and tobacco after walking through an unlocked door.

These burglaries illustrate just how important it is to lock your home’s doors and windows whether you’re in or out. We need people to help themselves from becoming victims of crime. We will continue with our high-visibility patrols in a bid to deter these criminals, but we can’t be everywhere all of the time. We also need the eyes of the public to help us catch these people and stop burglaries.
