Cambridge could be set to be graced by a new statue - of a Subbuteo-style referee.

Cambridge City Council wants to put up an £88,000 lifesize likeness of the flick-to-kick toy to mark the 150th anniversary of the formation of the Football Association.

The FA adopted some of the basic laws of the game - known as 'The Cambridge Rules' - which had been drawn up after a student meeting at Trinity College in 1848.

The rules formed at the meeting included goal kicks and throw-ins.
