Police are appealing for witnesses following a stabbing at Southend in Essex which left a man with serious injuries.
Officers were called to York Road, at the junction with Hastings Road, last night following a report that a man in his forties had received a stab wound to his face and neck.
The victim, who is from Southend, was taken by ambulance to Southend University Hospital, with a wound very close to a main artery.
He underwent surgery this morning and is now in a stable condition.
Detective Sergeant Tanya Bailey said: "This man’s life was put on line and we could have been looking at a potential murder investigation if it had not been for the quick actions of the paramedics.
Police are looking for a man in his 40s of Turkish appearance.
