The NHS Blood and Transplant Service says almost half the donors in the East are aged 45 or over and they need to encourage more young people to roll up their sleeves and start giving.
With hospitals across the country using 7,000 units of blood every 24 hours the service needs to attract 1,000 new donors each day to keep stocks sustainable.
