Man jailed for rape of teenage girl

A man who sexually abused a teenage girl in Cambridgeshire in the 1990's has been jailed for eight years.

Leslie Day, 48, raped the girl when she was just 13 at a house in March.

Day had been living in Ireland and was extradited back to cambridgeshire to stand trial.

The victim came forward to police last year, after telling a friend what had happened.

Day, who was living in Kilkenny, Ireland, was arrested in February and extradited back to Cambridgeshire.

He pleaded guilty to rape, attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and gross indecency with a child at Cambridge Crown Court.

He was sentenced to a total of eight years at Cambridge Crown Court today. He wlll be deported back to Ireland after he has served his sentence.
