A MAN who sexually abused a teenage girl in Cambridgeshire more than a decade ago has been jailed for eight years. Leslie Day, 48, raped the victim when she was just 13 at an address in March, in the 1990s.
He also sexually assaulted her several times. The victim came forward to police last year, after telling a friend what had happened. Day, who was living in Kilkenny, Ireland, was arrested in February and extradited back to Cambridgeshire.
He pleaded guilty to rape, attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and gross indecency with a child at Cambridge Crown Court. Judge Anthony Bate recommended Day be deported back to Ireland after he has served his sentence.
Detective Constable Natalie Bottom, who investigated, said: "The victim showed great bravery in coming forward after such a long time in order to bring her abuser to justice.
"This case shows that even after many years, we are still able to successfully prosecute offenders.
"People who have committed historic offences should be warned that they face a knock on the door from police."
