Recognition for Bedford's school crossing patrols

Members of the school crossing patrols

Members of school crossing patrols have been recognised for their hard work in Bedford.

There are 21 patrols in the town and the length of service of the dedicated patrol staff ranges from one year up to 39 years.

Some of the longest serving members have now been recognised at a special ceremony.

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, said: “Whatever the weather, school crossing patrol staff are out there helping children stay safe on often very busy roads, stepping out in front of traffic and keeping the attention of the children to ensure they cross safely."

Joan Loft has been helping children get to Wootton Lower School for nearly 40 years. She said: “It’s fantastic that my work and commitment to road safety has been recognised this week, along with the many other school crossing patrols in Bedford Borough and elsewhere in the country.”
