A man has been convicted of the manslaughter of a woman he violently raped in a Wisbech hotel. Dainotas Doblys, 48, of no fixed abode, was found guilty of manslaughter and two counts of rape following a 14-day trial at Cambridge Crown Court. He was cleared of murder.
He had met the victim, Virginija Jurkiene, 49, of Oakroyd Crescent, Wisbech, after she placed an advert in a Lithuanian magazine 'seeking a friend for a serious relationship'. The pair arranged to meet on Friday, and spent the evening drinking before they tried to check into a hotel.
They booked into the Hare and Hounds Hotel in North Brink, then left to buy alcohol and food from a local shop before returning to the hotel.
A post mortem revealed Ms Jurkiene had died from suffocation in conjunction with severe alcohol intoxication.
Doblys will be sentenced at a later date.
