Farmer murder trial delayed

76-year-old Llywelyn Thomas found dead at his home in Chittering

The trial of two men accused of murdering a retired farmer has been delayed.

Llywelyn Thomas, 76, was found dead in his home in Ely Road, Chittering, Cambridgeshire, on December 18.

Frankie Parker, 26, of Nene Road, Ely, and Gary Smith 21, of no fixed address, both deny murder.

John Smith, 67, of Wold Gate, Bridlington, East Yorkshire, will also stand trial after pleading not guilty to two counts of assisting an offender.

One count relates to an allegation that he acted as a getaway driver and the other that he provided a false alibi.

The trial was due to begin at Cambridge Crown Court today after a jury was sworn in yesterday.

This afternoon the court heard that the trial was not likely to start until tomorrow at the earliest due to legal argument.
