A Peterborough man has been jailed for more than 17 years after stabbing his partner 12 times with a screwdriver.

Peter Dunnell, 57, of Flore Close was found guilty of attempted murder.

Police officers traced a call to Dunnell's address after a woman phoned screaming for help.

The caller was Dunnell's partner of 17 years. She had managed to escape to a neighbour's house.

Dunnell was also sentenced to a lifetime restraining order.

Judge Nic Madge described Dunnell as "controlling, violent and domineering".
