The heatwave has triggered a string of thunderstorms across the Anglia region.
One weather station at Somersham in the Cambridgeshire Fens recorded 48 mm of rain in just 7 hours from 2am. The average monthly rainfall for July in the Anglia region is around 50 mm (2 inches)
The storms have brought localised flooding as the rain fell onto hard-baked earth and there has been travel disruption and some power cuts.
The white areas on the rainfall radar chart indicate rainfall rates in excess of 32 mm per hour.
