A system of mobile phone alerts informing residents about major emergencies is to be tested on more than 50,000 people, including residents in Suffolk.

A new emergency alert system is being trialled in Suffolk just a mile from a nuclear power station

Leiston is one of three places in the country testing the new text alert scheme.

In the event of an emergency, messages would be sent to all mobile phones in the area but there are concerns that it could exclude many people in the community.
