Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick has been named as the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for September.

The 25-year-old beat off competition from former Norwich City duo Robert Green and Jason Shackell to land the accolade, as well as Reading midfielder Danny Guthrie.

Former Nottingham Forest forward McGoldrick hit four goals in a successful month, netting twice in games against Middlesbrough and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy told the club's official website that he was pleased with McGoldrick's contribution so far this term.

"We’re delighted to see Didzy (McGoldrick) pick up this award and it’s well deserved.

“He was excellent for us last season when he joined on loan but he has stepped up another level this year.”

However, there wasn't such good news for Peterborough United's Britt Assombalonga who missed out on the League 1 award to Leyton Orient forward David Mooney.

The Posh man continued his blistering start to the season by finding the back of the net in wins over Bristol City and MK Dons, but it wasn't enough for him to add to the Football League Young Player of the Month award received earlier in the season.
