Pedestrian seriously injured in Essex crash

A pedestrian has been seriously injured in a crash in Chelmsford.

It happened on Colchester Road at around 6.30am today. A man in his 30s, from Hatfield Peverel, received head, arm and leg injuries and was taken by air ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital.

His condition this afternoon remained life-threatening.

The car driver, a man in his 50s and from Chelmsford, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving. He remained in custody this afternoon.
