The brothers of a police officer who was shot dead in Essex have accepted an award on his behalf for bravery.

41-year old PC Ian Dibell died tried to protect others from a gunman in Clacton in 2012.

Bravery award for police officer shot dead protecting others

A police officer from Essex killed as he tried to tackle a gunman has been recognised at a prestigious awards ceremony.

41-year-old Ian Dibell was shot while trying to intervene in a dispute near his home in Clacton-on-Sea in July last year. Last night he was named the most courageous police officer in the UK.

His family have spoken of their pride at how his actions saved the lives of others.
