Ipswich Town fans could be about to breathe a sigh of relief after several bookmakers suspended betting on Martin O'Neill becoming the new Republic of Ireland manager.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy had been strongly linked with a return to the Irish set-up, over a decade after he left his position first-time around.

However, it now looks as though former Norwich City player and manager O'Neill will replace Giovanni Trapattoni with some newspaper reports suggesting he could be unveiled as early as next week.
