Report praises police collaboration

Northamptonshire Police

A report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) has praised collaboration between Northamptonshire Police and East Midlands forces.

The HMIC report published today is the inspectorate’s first to give an assessment of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), set up in 2002, and the East Midlands Police Collaboration Programme, which co-ordinates and develops proposals for new collaborative projects.

HMIC concluded that the arrangements between Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire forces were effective, particularly for tackling serious and organised crime and major crimes such as murder, and it was “critical” that they should be continued.

The benefits to the region provided by collaboration are “significant”, the report adds, and forces will not be able to make similar levels of savings possible through collaboration if they withdraw from the arrangements.
