Clampdown on in-car phone use

Police forces across the region have launched a fresh campaign against people using handheld phones while driving. It comes as the charity Brake calls for hands free calls to be banned as well, saying they are a distraction for drivers

80,000 drivers in East Anglia have points after being distracted while driving

According to the road safety charity Brake:

  • 80,000 drivers in East Anglia have points on their licence for using a mobile phone while driving or from other distractions
  • 4 in 5 of those are men
  • 6 out of 10 children surveyed said they'd been in a car with someone who was using a mobile while driving
