Just days away from completing 6,000 mile walk for charity

Putting his best foot forward in Southend. John Rayment is just days away from completing his mission to walk more than 5,000 miles around the British coast.

His father had Parkinson's disease and now he's raising money for three charities who are looking to find a cure.

He's travelled through Cornwall, Wales, Cumbria and Scotland since he started his journey last August and even celebrated his 60th birthday in John O'Groats.

By the time it's complete, John estimates he will have walked 12 million paces. Walking Southend Pier took another 1.3 miles off the target.

When it's all over John, who used to be a lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, says he is looking forward to a long and leisurely retirement.
