Posh edge closer to Wembley date

Peterborough United have moved to within touching distance of securing a new-year Wembley date after beating Newport County in the Southern Section Area Final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Peterborough United have moved to within touching distance of securing a new-year Wembley date after beating Newport County in the Southern Section Area Semi-Final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Goals from Kgosi Ntlhe, Grant McCann and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing handed Posh a comfortable 3-0 victory over their League Two opponents.

They'll now face Swindon Town over two legs in the Area Final in February for a place at Wembley, where the winner will take on the champion from the Northern Section.

However, Stevenage's Wembley dreams are over after they were beaten on penalties by the aforementioned Swindon.
