The selfless act of an off-duty police officer shot dead in Essex has been recognised at the highest level.
Pc Ian Dibell was killed as he tried to protect the public from gunman Peter Reeve, who had fired shots near his home in Clacton in July last year.
Pc Dibell now becomes the first police officer in more than 20 years to be awarded the George Medal for gallantry.
