Bhupendra Patel, former Mayor of Wellingborough convicted of benefit fraud

A former Mayor of Wellingborough has been convicted of benefit fraud.

Bhupendra Patel, who represents the town's Hemmingwell ward, had admitted falsely claiming incapacity benefit.

He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for a year. Mr Patel has resigned from the conservative party and there are calls for him to leave the council.
