Former 'fattest man' flies to the US for surgery consult

Paul Mason

The man from Ipswich once dubbed the fattest in the world has flown to America to find out if his excess skin can be removed. Paul Mason, who is 53, once weighed 70 stone but has managed to slim down to 22 stone with the help of gastric band surgery.

He has an appointment with a consultant surgeon in New York who has agreed to give her time for free. Mr Mason says the operation will decide whether he can live a normal life or be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
