The former X-Factor winner Matt Cardle, from Colchester, said he spent last month in rehab, being treated for addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs.
The singer checked into the Priory clinic in Chelmsford after breaking down in front of his family on Boxing Day. Matt Cardle won the ITV talent show in 2010, beating boyband One Direction.
He told the Sun newspaper he started taking the anti-anxiety pill Valium to beat his fear of flying but became hooked on the drug. He now wants to use the experience to warn other of the dangers.
