Denver sluice helps region escape worst flooding

Our region has so far escaped the worst of the flooding - certainly in comparison to the south-west of England - and one of the main reasons for that is flood management schemes like the Denver Sluice on the River Great Ouse in Norfolk.

The sluice handles water from the Great Ouse and its tributaries including the Lark, the Cam and the man-made Old and New Bedford Rivers. Matthew Hudson spent the day at the sluice seeing the work they do.

Region braced for more storms

The Environment Agency is warning heavy rain and gale-force winds could see rivers burst their banks. It's expected that up to 20 millimetres of rain could fall on already wet ground tomorrow and Saturday.
