The MP for Harlow Robert Halfon has campaigned to lower bingo duty. In his Budget, the Chancellor announced the tax would be halved. Bingo halls in this region say it could secure their future.

Cut in duty could 'secure bingo halls for the future'

Bingo halls in the East have welcomed the Chancellor's announcement that bingo duty is to be cut from 20% to 10%.

Neil Cox, manager of Palace Bing in Great Yarmouth, said it would "secure more bingo halls for the future".

He added: "As the Chancellor said yesterday, three quarters of bingo clubs have closed down in the last 30 years, so that will give you an idea.
