Hundreds of volunteers in the 20th annual beachwatch survey picked up more than 2,300 pieces of litter for every km of beach they cleaned.

In our region 110 volunteers in Essex picked up over 1,000 pieces of litter during a single weekend last September.

In Suffolk more than 400 volunteers collected 286kg of rubbish while in Norfolk 41 volunteers managed to collect more than 4,000 items of rubbish weighing over 80kg.
