Killer who set fire to his victim is jailed for life

A man who beat a 63-year-old with a crowbar before stabbing him and setting his victim on fire is this morning beginning a life sentence in prison.

James Carbott, 31, of Epping Green in Hemel Hempstead, will have to serve a minimum of 27 years behind bars for the murder of Thomas Baird.

The attack happened at Mr Baird's home in Westerdale in March last year.

It followed the breakdown of Carbott's relationship with his victim's daughter.
