Maternity units in Harwich and Clacton, closed at the start of the year because of staff shortages, are to be re-opened - but in a reduced capacity.
The Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust say the units will open on an 'on-demand' basis, meaning mothers will be able to phone midwives when they go into labour and meet the midwife at the unit.
