A week's worth of rain in Woburn in just three hours

Woburn in Bedfordshire has seen more than a week's worth of rain in torrential downpours in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In the three hours to 4am there was 17.2 mm (0.7 inches) of rainfall in Woburn - 10 mm (0.4 inches) of that fell within one hour.

It represents one third of the rain that falls in a normal June in Woburn - the long-term average monthly rainfall at the site is 53 mm (2.1 inches).

It brings the monthly total so far in June 2014 at Woburn to 29 mm which is more than most other sites in the Anglia region.

For instance, Norwich has had only 5 mm of rain so far this month with 7 mm in Writtle, Essex and 8 mm in Cavendish, Suffolk.

The rainfall total averaged across the Anglia region for June so far is 18 mm which is 25% lower than normal for the month.
