MP backs plans for Ely bypass

Steve Barclay, the Conservative MP for North East Cambridgeshire, says it's vital that plans for an Ely southern bypass get the go-ahead.

He hopes that if Cambridgeshire County Council approves the plans they could qualify for European Union funding.

Supporters of the plans say the bypass would reduce congestion and delays in the area.

English Heritage has objected to the scheme as it is worried that the new road would have a negative impact on views of Ely’s historic cathedral.
