Bedfordshire Police have confirmed that three men died in a collision on the M1 early this morning.
A double decker coach was involved in a collision with a car, which had stopped on the hard shoulder near Flitwick. Three men in the car died at the scene. Another man has been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with serious injuries. Nobody in the coach, which was travelling from Kent, was injured.
The police are liaising with the three men's next of kin, and are investigating the circumstances of the collision. They expect the road to stay closed for at least the next few hours.
Drivers are being taken off the motorway at Junction 12, and are being diverted through Westoning, Flitwick, Steppingley and on to the A507. The police are asking any potential witnesses to contact them.
