A man's been jailed for eight and a half years after being found guilty of using his car as a weapon to kill a 60-year-old grandfather after a row outside a club in Rushden.

27-year-old Mohammed Hirsi, from Camden in London, claimed he had been racially abused when he drove his car at Lorenzo Gallucci in the Splash Pool car park - causing a fatal head injury.

Hirsi was later arrested in London but denied manslaughter.

Mr Gallucci's family said their lives had been changed forever.

“This was a tragic event where a man lost his life in the most unfortunate of circumstances.

There was no need for what happened and a family have lost their loved one as a result of an incident that could so easily have been prevented.

I would like to thank the investigation team for all their hard work and commitment on this case. This was a lengthy and complicated enquiry. The team worked tirelessly to seek justice for Lorenzo and his family. Hirsi’s conviction and the appreciation from the family is proof of their hard work.”
