A standoff between police and a suspected armed suspect in a Suffolk village has been "resolved peacefully".

The usually quiet village of Crowfield, near Stowmarket, was in lockdown for three days - with armed officers, dog units and the police helicopter being brought in.

The 42-year-old man left his house at about 3.30pm this afternoon and was detained by police.

He has been arrested on suspicion of making threats and possession of a firearm, and has be taken into police custody for questioning.

Officers have recovered at least one firearm, as searches of the house continue.

Stone Street is expected to re-open this evening, allowing traffic to flow freely through the village again.
