  • Video report by ITV News Anglia's Matthew Hudson

The race has officially started to become the first mayor for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, with a range of new powers and a budget of hundreds of millions of pounds.

The Communities and Local Government Secretary Sajid Javid was in Wisbech to urge people to use their vote on May 4th.

The new combined authority will have devolved powers from the Government over areas including housing, transport and education.

I'm here today to sign this ground breaking devolution deal. It means a lot more powers coming to Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and a lot more money - almost £800m pounds of new money.

It will lead to jobs through investment in skills and transport and to get the right deal for Cambridge going forward you need the right leadership and that's why these election on May 4th are so important.
