Norwich City midfielder Wes Hoolahan and Ipswich Town winger Tom Lawrence have both been ruled out of Friday's World Cup qualifier between the Republic of Ireland and Wales.

Hoolahan picked up a serious-looking thigh injury in Norwich's win over Barnsley on Saturday and Ireland manager Martin O'Neill told the press today that he's likely to be missing for a "number of weeks."

"Wes Hoolahan will be out of the game," O'Neill said.

"The scan came back this morning and it's bad news for us and for his club."

Lawrence will also miss the match due to a suspected hip injury and has been replaced by Liverpool's Harry Wilson.

Meanwhile, Norwich winger Jacob Murphy has been called up the England under-21s squad to face Germany and Denmark.
