A van driver is in a potentially life-threatening condition in hospital following a three-vehicle crash in Essex.

A white Mercedes sprinter van, a silver Ford Mondeo and a HGV collided just after 10pm on Thursday night (August 4) between junctions 18 and 19 at Chelmsford.

A 40-year-old man, who was the driver of the Mercedes van, was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and is in a critical - and potentially life-threatening - condition.

A woman and a man both in their 60s - the driver and passenger in the Mondeo - suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital in Chelmsford.
