Stevenage driver Lewis Hamilton has broken Michael Schumacher's record for the most Formula One pole positions by securing top spot ahead of Sunday's Italian Grand Prix.

The Mercedes man took the 69th pole of his career at a rain-soaked Monza - finishing ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

However, Verstappen and his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo will now both start further down the grid after they were hit with engine penalties, meaning youngsters Lance Stroll and Esteban Ocon will line up alongside Hamilton.
