Colchester United defender Frankie Kent has signed a new contract with the club.

The 21-year-old made his debut for the U's in 2014 and has gone on to make more than 60 appearances in the first team.

Kent's fresh deal will run until the the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

"Frankie has progressed well over the last couple of years since breaking through as a teenager and he is now one of the first choices within the team," Director of Football Tony Humes said.

"His development and progress during his time in the first team has been down to his hard work and determination, alongside his undoubted natural talent.

"It's been no surprise that his displays have attracted interest, with clubs at a higher level coming to watch him at games.

"With that in mind, it's great that he's agreed to sign this new deal and we are confident that he will continue to make big strides and prove that he can play at a higher level in the future."
