Supermarket chain Lidl has announced plans to open a new regional distribution centre in Peterborough. It says this will create up to 500 jobs in the area.

The centre is set to be Lidl's largest in Britain and is part of the company's plan to invest £1.45bn in the UK this year and next. The centre will manage the supply and distribution of food and other items in the region.

Lidl has exchanged contracts on a 34-acre site at Gateway Peterborough, off Junction 17 of the A1. It will now seek planning consent for the project.

"Peterborough is ideally located and we’re pleased to be bringing more jobs to the local community”.
