  • Video report by ITV Anglia's Stuart Leithes

A teenage girl has been speaking about the moment she dived into a Cambridgeshire river to save one of her friends from drowning.

Abbie Bannon leapt into the icy cold River Nene in the Fenland town of March to save a friend who she says had jumped in because she was being bullied.

The rescue was complicated by the fact that her friend suffers from epilepsy.

Abbie's actions have been praised by her school. She is in year 11 at the Octavia Academy in Wisbech.

Abbie says she now keeps in regular contact with her friend to help her through the difficulties which made her take such a drastic course of action.
