Think a drink won't really affect your driving? This CCTV might make you change your mind

Police in Hertfordshire have released CCTV of a drink driver whose car flew over a wall and through a fence.

Officers hope the footage will deter others from getting behind the wheel after having a drink.

The driver, a 26-year-old man, had two passengers in his car. He narrowly missed crashing into an electrical substation.

He admitted dangerous driving, drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident at a hearing in Luton this week.

As well as a two-year driving ban, he was given a suspended prison sentence.

“He not only put his own life at risk but also the life of his two passengers. His reckless behaviour could have also put other road users and wider members of the public at risk of serious injury or even death. “This CCTV footage demonstrates how good driving judgement is compromised when a motorist has been drinking alcohol, which also creates a feeling of overconfidence and slowsdown your reactions.”
