Merigo is trained in Ecclefachan by Andrew Parker. The 11 year old is the first horse to win the title after a year. He was second in the race last year.
He started the race second favourite and jockey Timmy Murphy said afterwards that the horse was a superstar and he'd had to dig deep.
The race was held at Ayr, a course which Merigo seems to like a lot.
Andrew Parker spoke to our reporter Kathryn samson about what makes the horse so special and explained this isn't the first win for them this season:
Horse racing is regularly criticised by animal rights campaigners, the deaths of the horses at the Grand National in Aintree recently brought the issue to the fore front of people's minds once again. Kathryn asked Mr Parker how he can reassure people that this sport isn't cruel.
Mr Parker hopes this win will boost the profile of the training facilities at Ecclefechan.
