A 67-year-old man has died in hospital after being struck down by a car in Carlisle, just yards from his home.

He was crossing Newtown Road in the city when the Skoda Octavia hit him at 9.35pm on Saturday the 12th May.

He was treated at the scene by members of the public and paramedics. He was taken to Cumberland Infirmary where he later died.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident are asked to call Cumbria Police on 101.
