The Waterside Hotel in Grasmere opens in August.

It is currently employing more than 80 local tradesman and is advertising for staff to run the business once building work is completed. It is one of three major building projects currently on-going and is designed to boost the Lake District's tourism economy.

Along with extensions to the Windermere Marina Village and the plans for a new conference centre to be built on the edge of Windermere it is part of a £16 million pound programme of investment in the area. They are all creating local jobs but the Friends of the Lake District fear that if development is allowed to escalate and continue unchecked, tourists may be driven away as the unspoiled countryside they come for diminishes.
