Cumbria Constabulary has kicked off its summer drink and drug drink campaign today
with the message “take turns in being a designated driver, look after friends and
family and they will look after you.” With a number of big events taking place this summer, such as the Jubilee celebrations, European Football and Olympic torch relay, the police want people to enjoy the festivities but travel to and from the events safely and responsibly.
The police also released figures showing that last year a quarter of drivers arrested in the summer for drink-driving were caught the morning after. Doctors are warning people that it's easy to underestimate the effect alcohol can have the following day.
